the last time we paddled out of Bluff Point and joined the mob of power boats on the east side of the river viewing the parade. there was a somewhat obnoxious (but probably needed) patrol of security types in a RIB speeding up and down the line of gawkers making sure NOBODY CROSSED THE "LINE". if you did, they were pretty aggressive about moving you back. the crowd of boaters was well behaved and good-natured. an anchored power boater threw us a line so that we kept our place despite the current (see the note above about crossing the line).
the paddle over was fine, but when the last ship passed, all the power boats heading out simultaneously made for quite a chop. fortunately, despite the fact there was a fair amount of beer drinking on the stink pots, no kayaks became speed bumps
bring along a good set of binoculars. "the line" is several hundred yards from the parade.
