I have kevlar boats so I just use a couple of NRS straps around the hull fore and aft thru eye screws in the ceiling joists. Simpler but perhaps a bit more work than pulley hoist rigs. For plastic boats I would want the hull to be resting on wider seat belt webbing slings. It's not a perfect solution and when the strap buckle teeth get worn and corroded you have to replace them before they let the boat slip. This is what I have used for the last 14 years to hang 17 / 18' sea kayaks.
