CT did this experiment a few years ago in the Old Lyme area (maybe others) with good results, if I remember. Not 90% like on the semi-closed system of Shelter Island though. Our backyard (near 4 mile River boat launch) was a control area on the edge of the test range. We received annual reports of what they found when they "dragged" our yard and the progress of the experiment itself, plus a final report when the 4 or 5 year test was completed. I have the reports somewhere, I think that it was determined that although the test worked it would be expensive for widespread application. I even volunteered to have a station in our back year and maintain it. We've had up to 7 deer on our 3/4 acre lot at the same time, during the day.

Great idea - just needs money!
