jay, thanks so much. i'm springing for your recommendation: i'll order RAKA two part epoxy,

1 1/2 Quart Kit [1 quart resin + 1/2 quart hardeners (+ 350 Non-Blush)]
and then they recommend their own spar varnish, called "india spar varnish." it should all work.
