Re: Broken Group Islands & Clayoquot Sound

: What month did you go and how were the water temperatures? Fog or weather issues? Where did you camp and would you
: recommend your sites? Likely will plan to camp on Hand, Willis, Dodd or Gibraltar.

I think it was August/September. So water temperature was not an issue. It's also the "calmer" months, I'm told. Fog was not a problem but I had a GPS and compass with me as normal equipment.

Camping is restricted to the 8 or so islands. So privacy isn't all that great. The "outer" island campsites are quieter, I'm told. I didn't camp out there because I was paddling alone, not on my own boat. But paddling out it didn't feel all that bad. Just big(ger) swells, if you know what I mean.

I don't recall all the specifics. The ferry does different stops so you can string together an interesting itinery when you have your own boat. I didn't have that luxury, wish I had.

: Do you have any charts you'd be willing to part with or copy?
: Canadian charts are darned expensive!

Yes, I should still have the chart. I kept it for the same reason you cited. It's a HUGE map so copying may or may not be very pratical (assuming I can still find it in the first place). e-mail me off-line and I'll see what we can do.

: Any suggestions or advice greatly appreciated. Recommendations for
: other paddling spots in the area?

There're TONS of paddling there. You got 3 months? ;-)
