We went up 4-mile river a way. It was pretty, but short. There are plenty of other tidal marsh rivers that are longer if you want to spend a few hours on the water in a nice place. Branford river is one, Great Island, Old Lyme is another place that accesses two side rivers. The current can be fairly strong at the launching, so it's helpful to know what the tides are doing.
Another nice trip is the Salmon river in East Haddam. There is a state launching right at the mouth where it joins the Connecticut River. It can be a good place when it is too windy elsewhere, and the currents don't tend to be as strong.
: Thanks for the trip report!
: I've launched 4MR many times and ashamed to say, I've never went
: Something I need to do this summer.
: Best to to plan river paddles around incoming tides.
