Bobbing Logs

On Wednesday Missey and I paddled out of Barn Island around sandy point and inside Naptree Point to Watch Hill harbor. On the way back across to Barn Island we noticed a large rock and discussed how many boats must have hit it. “Look , there is another one over there.” Being in possession of great marine knowledge and judgment I assured her that was a log bobbing in the chop. Then this log, about 20 feet in front of us turned and looked at me! It was a seal. It kept looking at us and we pulled our boats together quietly. Another seal surfaced between our boats and the first seal , got instantly spooked and blasted back under. They both surfaced a distance away and our first seal encounter from our boats was over. Beware of bobbing logs....
