: Jamestown Paddle is a go. Launch from Fort Wetherill 10am in the water. We'll
: be circumnavigating the lower section of Jamestown Island (with a short
: portage in the middle). It's about 10 or 11 miles or so and if the mild
: forecast holds, a relatively easy intermediate paddle. Maybe we'll go
: counter-clockwise this time, hugging the shore wherever possible. This one
: isn't about zipping around the island with as few paddle strokes as
: possible. It's short enough that we can spend the time interacting with
: the (rather nice) scenery. Debriefing to follow.
: Directions - From New Haven, Take Rt 95 north to Rt 138 East. Cross Jamestown
: Bridge and take Downtown Jamestown exit near the Newport Bridge Tolls on
: the Eastside of the island. Follow the main road heading South through the
: center of town. Then turn LEFT at the sign for Ft. Wetherill. Follow this
: road to the park, turn Right into the park then take a quick Left to the
: boat launch parking area. Ft. Wetherill is on the East side of the island,
: south of the Newport Bridge and north of Mackerel Cove.
: Directions - From Hartford, Take Rt 384 to Rt 6 East. Follow to Johnston, RI,
: and then take Rt 295 south to Rt 95 south to Rt 138 East. Then as above.
: Yes, it's worth the trip.
