Back from the Wednesday night puddle paddle - had a great time . Thanks everyone!
Usual Northern Water snake (Nerodia Sipedon Sipedon) poking about the launch area but when we got back I happened to glance up and spotted this guy about 20 feet up in a tree. I've heard tell that the black snake would climb trees but this is the first time I've seen one up so high. Couldn't get a good look but by size alone ( around three and an half to four foot - adults can reach eight feet in length) and it's belly coloration I'd guess it was a young Black Rat snake (Elaphe Obsoleta Obsoleta).
