New Year's Day Paddle

20th Annual New Year's Day Paddle/Polar Plunge Observational/Remembrance Of Fallen Paddler Jim Rasmus/Post Paddle Eats & Drinkys - Gory Details

Things are falling into place for this infamous event. Should be a good one marking it's 20th year. For the uninitiated, we launch from Palmer Cove parking lot, commonly referred to as Esker Point, usually around 10-11am (depending on individual's interest in time on the water). Around noon, we gather at Esker Point Beach to watch a group of runners/drinkers do a polar plunge which happens around 12:30-1pm. For those so inclined, we go out for eats and drinks after. Non paddlers are welcome at the post paddle thing so, if weather is keeping you high and dry, feel free to join us there.

A change this year is the closing of The Seahorse. We have a reservation under my name "Gerry" at 2pm at Par Four in Groton. Very much the same atmosphere, food and prices. Plenty of parking too. They have a bar if you get there early.

Esker Point parking is listed on Google Maps as 937 Long Point Road, Groton. It's a huge lot, on the north side of the road, just east of a closed restaurant.

Par Four Restaurant is at 93 Plant Street, Groton. It is, unsurprisingly, adjacent to a golf course. Parking lots just before the entrance and plenty of street parking. They close down at 5 that day so plan accordingly. For sanity sake, make sure to ask for separate checks.

Hope everyone had a great holiday.
