Note: MeetUp listing notes launch time now 11:00 AM.
Please follow the MeetUp for updates and anouncements for this paddle:
: The best way to spend a sultry summer Sunday? In your kayak, of
: course! Even better -- our community of paddlers can provide an
: army of pollution control, without doing anything more than
: keeping our eyes open while we paddle.
: We'll spend the day (Sunday, 8th of July) exploring the Norwalk
: Islands (weather permitting), 6-8 miles, route depending on
: prevailing winds. We'll stop somewhere for a picnic lunch, maybe
: on Sherwood Island, Cockenoe, or Calf Pasture or Compo
: (concession stands!) depending on wind and group preferences.
: After reminding ourselves why we love living here, we'll land on
: Sherwood Island S.P. for a brief 4:00 p.m. presentation by CT
: Fund for the Environment (refreshments courtesy of SISP) to show
: us some really easy ways that we can be "the eyes, ears,
: and nose for your waterways."
: We'll launch from the Saugatuck ramp (free parking) carried by the
: ebb - launch time 12:00 p.m.. After exploring for a few hours,
: we'll land on SISP for a 4:00 p.m. presentation, and return with
: plenty of daylight (3.3 Nm back to the Saugatuck ramp) in time
: for our Sunday dinners, with the flood carrying us back up the
: Paddle pace will average 3 kts. The paddle portion requires a kayak
: of at least 15 feet, no rec boats, and basic knowledge of
: assisted rescue skills. Depending on conditions for the day,
: experience requirements may have to be upgraded (TBA).
: For anyone interested in a shorter paddle, or just a walk in the
: park, you can make your own plans to launch from or stroll
: through beautiful Sherwood Island -- admission is free this year
: for CT residents (CT license plate)!
: I know you love the Sound. Here's your chance to give something
: back -- and you don't even have to wake up early!
