Sound Outlook Alert:
Bureau of Ocean Energy Management
Proposed 2019-2024 National Outer Continental Shelf
Oil and Gas Leasing Program
Public Meeting/Open House
Tuesday February 13, 2018
200 Columbus Boulevard, Hartford
3:00 pm to 7:00 pm
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) will be hosting a public meeting/open house on Tuesday February 13, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Hartford Marriott, 200 Columbus Boulevard, Hartford, CT to solicit public feedback and input on the proposed Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program for 2019-2024. BOEM is hosting a series of meetings in the capitals of all Eastern Seaboard states.
The Draft Proposed Program proposes oil and gas lease sales in areas of the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and in much of Alaska's planning areas during that 5-year time-frame.
BOEM does not have jurisdiction in the state waters of Long Island Sound, so no such oil and gas leases can be proposed within Long Island Sound proper.
However, Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Rob Klee are opposed to opening the North and Mid-Atlantic to gas and oil production.
We encourage interested Long Island Sound stakeholders to attend the Hartford public meeting/open house on February 13, 2018 and/or submit written comments by March 9, 2018 (online or via U.S. Mail) to BOEM on the Draft Proposed Program. For more information on providing your input, please visit https://www.boem.gov/National-Program/.
