I designed the first Outer Island (strip-built) in 1996. I've built four since making refinements to the design based on my paddling experiences. Shown is my last one and the one that gets sent out in plans. Also shown is a detail of the recessed hatch for the front VCP.

 I built the West Greenland skin boat during the Winter of 1999 using instructions from multiple sources. It's 18 ft long x 20" wide. Quite tippy and very tight to get into.  A fun project and a neat kayak to have in my fleet. I use it with caution mostly in warmer weather because it's got float bags and no bulkheads. It's covered with polyester that's coated with colored epoxy. So far the epoxy-coated skin has been great. Tough and rot proof.
